It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but River Valley had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Page Sand Devils as they made off with a 17-1 victory. Considering the Dust Devils have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mickey Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Wyatt Maxwell was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since April 2nd. Hunter Koehler was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
River Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
River Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Page, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-13.
As of now, neither River Valley nor the Sand Devils have any future games scheduled.
