5A District 8 recap October 29, 2013
Dunedin fell to Boca Ciega 27-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Jontae Murphy provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Pirates beat the Falcons.
Saivion Smith put up the best numbers in passing as Boca Ciega topped Dunedin. He finished with a total of 2 completions for 1 yards and 1 touchdown.
Antez Brinson's team's Derrick Cook and Sirkendric Bedinnes have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A District 8 in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Cook has thrown for 915 yards this season, while Bedinnes has 32 catches for 452 yards. Michael Ford from Tarpon Springs leads the league in rushing with 875 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Pirates' Bedinnes goes up against the Spongers' Maurice Turner.
Next week's game between Boca Ciega and Tarpon Springs will feature a good passing match up as Cook will test his arm against Turner's defensive ability.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Pirates and Ron Hawn's team face off next week.
As it stands, the Spongers are in second, while Boca Ciega is in fourth.
The Pirates made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,863 from 7,441. The improvement was largely due to a 27-0 victory over the Falcons last week.
