The Manteo Redskins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They lost to Holmes at home by a decisive 52-35 margin. Manteo found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Manteo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydnee Ballance, who scored 15 points along with two blocks. That was a full 42.9% of Manteo's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of CC Lowe, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Holmes to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ellie Spear, who scored 16 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Spear posted eight or more assists. Kate Foster was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Manteo's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Holmes, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manteo will face off against the Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden County has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13. As for Holmes, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully Pasquotank County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
