Sandpoint is on a six-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Lakeland a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Sandpoint Bulldogs will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Lakeland Hawks at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Sandpoint will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Lake City, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Timberwolves 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Timberwolves since March 13, 2021.

Mason Little made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Lehman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Sandpoint's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Parker Reichart, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Sandpoint kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Lakeland duked it out with Lakeside two weeks ago. The Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Jake Larcher was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Nate Bevacqua was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Sandpoint's win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Lakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Sandpoint beat Lakeland 6-1 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
