Lathrop extended their road winning streak to six games thanks to a huge performance from Jorge Reyes. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Johansen on Wednesday thanks in part to Reyes, who had 32 assists and three aces. He has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more assists the last three times he's played.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Lathrop took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-14, 25-9.
Meanwhile, Sierra sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over East Union on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Timberwolves.
Sierra was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13.
Sierra found their leader in sophomore Manolo Asuncion, who had 20 digs and one assist.
Sierra's win bumped their record up to 19-12. As for Lathrop, they have been performing well recently as they've won 16 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's contest: Lathrop has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Sierra struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Lathrop's way against Sierra in their previous meeting back in March, as Lathrop made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Timberwolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
