Softball Game Preview: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Crawford Colts

Mission Bay has gone a perfect 3-0 against Crawford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Buccaneers will welcome the Colts at 4:00 p.m. Mission Bay's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Crawford's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mission Bay took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Morse by a score of 6-3.

Abby Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Evie Horton was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kassie Zavala, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Crawford fell victim to San Diego and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 20-0 to the Cavers. The loss continues a trend for the Colts in their meetings with the Cavers: they've now lost five in a row.

Mission Bay is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Crawford, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Everything went Mission Bay's way against Crawford when the teams last played back in April of 2018, as Mission Bay made off with a 19-0 victory. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
