The Florin Panthers are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Johnson Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Florin has given up an average of 17.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
West Campus hit Florin with a 13-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers came up short against the Warriors, falling 19-2. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Johnson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.
Angelene Gonzales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Leticia Gonzales was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Clarissa Aceves-Fonseca, who went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Johnson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Johnson's record is now 5-7. As for Florin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Florin might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Johnson in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
