The South Eugene Axe will head out on the road to challenge the Grants Pass Cavemen at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. South Eugene knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 contests -- so hopefully Grants Pass likes a good challenge.
South Eugene pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of North Medford by a score of 59-57.
Despite the loss, South Eugene had strong showings from Levi Hawes, who scored 19 points along with four steals, and Landyn Bryant, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and three steals. Hawes hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Calvin Yoder, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Grants Pass scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 74-42 win over Willamette. The win was familiar territory for Grants Pass who now have three in a row.
South Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Grants Pass, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
South Eugene came up short against Grants Pass in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 66-62. Can South Eugene avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
