The Doddridge County Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Webster County Highlanders at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Doddridge County will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Tuesday, Doddridge County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-49 victory over Tyler. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Doddridge County has scored all year.
Doddridge County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Akaia Williams led the charge by scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Tenley Paugh, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Webster County came up short against Braxton County on Monday and fell 48-40.
Doddridge County's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.36 points. As for Webster County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Doddridge County was able to grind out a solid victory over Webster County when the teams last played back in January, winning 64-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Webster County's Sydney Baird, who almost dropped a triple-double on 25 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Doddridge County to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
