Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Wendell's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Wendell's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Everything went their way against the Firth Cougars as they made off with a 21-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Macie Bird and Breanna Comstock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bird struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Comstock pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bird has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Bird scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4, while Comstock scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave Bird a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wendell got a massive performance out of Nayeli Juarez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Audra Bunn was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive contests.

Wendell is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Firth, their record now sits at 2-6.

Looking ahead, Wendell will venture away from home to square off against Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Firth, they will welcome Ririe at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.6 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
