The Oxford Yellow Jackets entered their tilt with the Fort Payne Wildcats with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Oxford strolled past Fort Payne with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 71-52. For Oxford, this counts as revenge for the 46-42 loss Fort Payne walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xaionna Whitfield, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 13 rebounds. Whitfield has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Thomas, who scored 25 points along with nine rebounds.
Oxford is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. As for Fort Payne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 17-10.
Oxford will head out on the road to take on Gadsden City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gadsden City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Friday. As for Fort Payne, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Westminster Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. Westminster Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 369th, while Fort Payne is ranked 95th).
