On Friday, the Valor Christian Eagles faced the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Valor Christian secured a 56-50 W over Mountain Vista. The win was familiar territory for Valor Christian who now have four in a row.
Leading Valor Christian to victory were Cole Scherer and Brady Wynja. Scherer scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Wynja dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Scherer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Dixon, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Mountain Vista still got an impressive performance from Jacob Hoefs, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hoefs posted eight or more assists. Cal Baskind was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Mountain Vista struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Valor Christian pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Valor Christian's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Mountain Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valor Christian will face off against Smoky Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Smoky Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Mountain Vista, they will head out on the road to take on Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Arapahoe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
