Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meridian). They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Nouvel Catholic Central Panthers on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Drew Lafave made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Meridian got a big performance out of Garrett Bergman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Bergman has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Olmsted, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meridian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Nouvel Catholic Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.
As of now, neither Meridian nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
