The Polson Pirates are taking a road trip to face off against the Frenchtown Broncs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Saturday, Polson got the win against Troy by a conclusive 17-4. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Cole Wadsworth, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Landon Shoemake, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Polson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Frenchtown faced Stevensville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Broncs put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 12-5 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Broncs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jordan Warner was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Mickey, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Polson's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Frenchtown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
Frenchtown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Polson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Frenchtown, though, as they've only averaged .220. Will they be able to contain Polson's hitters?
Everything went Polson's way against Frenchtown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Polson made off with a 9-2 victory. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Broncs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
