The Mohawk Warriors will face off against the Ayersville Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mohawk comes in on eight and Ayersville on 17.
Mohawk is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Hilltop 10-4. Considering the Warriors have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Gottfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks.
At the plate, Mohawk got a massive performance out of Trenna Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Emily Brickner, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mohawk was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilltop only posted a batting average of .207.
Meanwhile, Ayersville narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Calvert 2-1.
Ayersville also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kendra Waldron gave up only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Waldron has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Miki Shreve, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Ayersville's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Mohawk, their win bumped their record up to 23-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mohawk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Ayersville struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
