The Preston Knights lost against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Preston was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to Robert C. Byrd. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Preston in their matchups with Robert C. Byrd: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Preston had strong showings from Kendra Nazelrod, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and five blocks, and Cameryn Sypolt, who scored 14 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella White, who scored four points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Carleigh Curotz was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with three steals and two blocks for Robert C. Byrd. Curotz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Martina Howe, who scored 14 points.
Preston has not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
Preston will head out on the road to square off against North Marion at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in North Marion's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. Fairmont Senior is coming into the contest with five straight losses on the road, meaning Robert C. Byrd will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
