The Pantego Christian Panthers were the 61-36 winner over the Red River Rattlers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Pantego Christian fell 46-34 to Red River on Tuesday.
When it comes to explaining why Pantego Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tristan Brown. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Brown has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Jackson, who scored seven points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Pantego Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Red River only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Red River's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Corban Tyler led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Isaac Burnside, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Pantego Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Red River, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
Pantego Christian will stay at home for another game and welcome Lake Country Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Lake Country Christian has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15. Red River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
