RIDGELAND, Miss. - A big 33-point first quarter helped carry the Bearcats to a 40-6 victory over St. Andrews Episcopal (Ridgeland, Miss.) on Saturday.
Forest scored on a
Chris Mazique touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Jaylon Lofton, a touchdown pass by
Luke Reynolds to
Chad Kincaid, a Reynolds touchdown pass to
Dentavious Lockett and a Mazique touchdown run in the quarter.
FHS was up 33-6 at the half after taking the lead on a Mazique touchdown run in the first quarter.
The Bearcats expanded their lead to 34 points entering the fourth quarter. Forest scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Mazique.
A 33-point first quarter set the table for FHS, which coasted the rest of the way for the victory.
The Saints' Fikayo Idawo played well. The junior wide receiver caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.
Mazique was the top performer for the Bearcats. The junior running back ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
St. Andrews Episcopal's lone touchdown came on a 14-yard pass from Johnathan Taylor to Idawo in the second quarter.
Forest came in allowing an average of 29.3 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding SAE well below its season average of 20.3 points scored per game.
The Bearcats also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 46-6.
With the win Forest extended its winning streak to four games.
In a non-conference game next week St. Andrews Episcopal (4-6) takes on McLaurin, and Forest (5-4) will go up against Morton in a 3A Region 6 game.
