The Mullen Mustangs will face off against the Heritage Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Mullen needed a bit of extra time to put away Holy Family. They snuck past the Tigers with a 64-59 win.

Mullen can attribute much of their success to Mason Bonner, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds, and Ben Medina, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 16 points along with five boards and three steals. What's more, Bonner also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 85-60 to Mountain Vista. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 19th).
Mullen will have to contain Brayden Chaney as he made an impact in Heritage's last game. He went 8 of 15 en route to 18 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trystan Rangel, who posted 11 points.
Even though they lost, Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.
Heritage now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Mullen, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mullen has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mullen came up short against Heritage in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 66-58. Can Mullen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
