The Clay City Eels will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Northview Knights at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Clay City posted their biggest victory since November 10, 2023 on Thursday. They put the hurt on Dugger Union with a sharp 50-29 victory. Given Clay City's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Dugger Union is ranked 696th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Lulu Koehler, who scored eight points along with nine steals and five assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Kailyn Kirkling was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northview came tearing into last Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 50-31 victory over South Putnam. 50 seems to be a good number for Northview as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Clay City's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Northview, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Clay City, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 40-24 loss to Northview when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Clay City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
