After flying high against the Independence 76ers last Tuesday, the Walnut Ridge Scots came back down to earth. Walnut Ridge received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 66-48 to Olentangy Orange. While losing is never fun, Walnut Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while Olentangy Orange is ranked second).
Several Scots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deon Johnson, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Dominique Aekins was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Walnut Ridge struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Walnut Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Olentangy Orange, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walnut Ridge will take on Africentric Early College at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Africentric Early College's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches. As for Olentangy Orange, Olentangy Orange and Hilliard Davidson will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hilliard Davidson and Olentangy Orange are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
