Basketball Recap: Newton Extends Winning Streak to Three

Newton waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 46-33 victory over the Philadelphia Tornadoes. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Philadelphia, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Newton Tigers take on the Kemper County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Philadelphia, they and West Lauderdale will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
