Berkeley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Summerville Green Wave at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Berkeley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Summerville is ranked fifth).
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Berkeley walked away with it. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Conway 44-8 at home.
Henry Rivers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while also throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 passes. Tyler Umphlet made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Summerville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 28-3 margin over River Bluff. Considering Summerville has won eight games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Summerville can attribute much of their success to Yannick Smith, who picked up 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Jaden Cummings, who threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Glenn, who picked up 93 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Berkeley's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.6 points per game. As for Summerville, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Berkeley took a serious blow against Summerville when the teams last played back in September, falling 62-27. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Summerville's Smith, who picked up 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Now that Berkeley knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
