On Saturday, the Ridgeland Titans faced the Columbus Falcons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ridgeland walked away with a 68-61 win over Columbus. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ridgeland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Phil Nelson out in front who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Stevent Watkins, who scored 13 points.
Ridgeland is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Columbus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ridgeland will take on Vicksburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vicksburg is looking to tack on another W to their 13-game streak on the road. As for Columbus, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Warren Central at 7:30 p.m. Warren Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Columbus is ranked 14th).
