After a string of four wins, the Forest Hills Yellow Jackets's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Darlington by a score of 58-56. While losing is never fun, Forest Hills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 297th in North Carolina, while Darlington is ranked 37th in South Carolina).
Despite the defeat, Forest Hills saw an underclassman step up: Amari Melton scored 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmarion Mingo, who scored 14 points.
Forest Hills' loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Darlington, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.
Forest Hills and Parkwood will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Parkwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Forest Hills likes a good challenge. As for Darlington, they will head out on the road to face off against Marlboro County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
