Mission is 9-1 against Balboa since March of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mission Bears will look to defend their home court against the Balboa Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Mission suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Lincoln 74-26. Mission has not had much luck with Lincoln recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Balboa won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 86-61 walloping at the hands of Washington. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Balboa has suffered against Washington since January 14, 2019.
Loss or not, Balboa got some senior leadership from Sam San Juan and Je'Mon Brown. San Juan went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 0 assists, while Brown. scored 16 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points San Juan has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Markel Nelson, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Mission bumped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Balboa, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Mission strolled past Balboa in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 77-62. Does Mission have another victory up their sleeve, or will Balboa turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
