The Placer Hillmen are taking a road trip to square off against the Yuba City Honkers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Placer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Placer didn't have quite enough to beat River Valley and fell 5-4. The Hillmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Paige Denniston made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yuba City). They were the clear victors by a 24-2 margin over Nevada Union on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Honkers in their matchups with the Miners: they've now won five in a row.
Maddison Stead made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Stead was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Chloe Gonzales was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Naiema Cawthon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Yuba City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Yuba City's record now sits at 17-7-1. As for Placer, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Placer hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Yuba City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Placer suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Yuba City in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Hillmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
