Hodgdon hasn't had much luck against Katahdin recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hawks will head out to challenge the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hodgdon comes in on seven and Katahdin on 12.
On Friday, Hodgdon was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Fairfield, taking the game 6-3.
The team relied heavily on Hunter Duttweiler, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Cameron Hanington was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Katahdin made easy work of Southern Aroostook on Friday and carried off a 20-9 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Connor Edwards made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Conor Schmidt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Bradley Swallow also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Katahdin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Katahdin pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Hodgdon, their record now sits at 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hodgdon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Katahdin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hodgdon couldn't quite finish off Katahdin when the teams last played back in April and fell 8-6. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
