Howland and Boardman are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Howland is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
It was a proper cat-fight when Howland took on Cardinal Mooney on Thursday. The Tigers lost 14-4 to the Cardinals. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly ten runs.
Terri Werner and Richie Ansel did some serious damage despite the final result: Werner went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Ansel went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Boardman got themselves on the board against Harding on Tuesday, but Harding never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 11-0 victory. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Collin Resetar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Tyler Kirlik was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Boardman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Donovan Whippo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Boardman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Boardman has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Howland, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.
Howland's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's matchup. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Boardman, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Howland continue to outrun the ball?
Howland couldn't quite finish off Boardman when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
