If the Shorecrest Prep Chargers were riding high off their 51-31 takedown of the Out-of-Door Academy Thunder last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Shorecrest Prep suffered a tough 59-38 loss at the hands of Tampa Prep on Friday. While losing is never fun, Shorecrest Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 339th, while Tampa Prep is ranked 107th).
Despite the loss, Shorecrest Prep still got an impressive performance from Nickolas Bearden, who scored 18 points. That was a full 47.4% of Shorecrest Prep's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Enrique Negron was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tampa Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christian Fuller, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Fuller continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of J'London Bivens, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Shorecrest Prep's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Tampa Prep, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that victory, which was their 22nd straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shorecrest Prep will take on Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Clearwater Central Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten last Thursday. As for Tampa Prep, they will play host again and welcome Brandon Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brandon Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
