Basketball Recap: Brooks Reckard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roosevelt over Mountain View

Roosevelt lost against Mountain View back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Roosevelt Roughriders fell 72-64 to the Mountain View Mountain Lions. Even though they lost, the Roughriders' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Roosevelt's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooks Reckard, who posted 17 points and six rebounds. Those 17 points gave Reckard a new career-high. Nolan Peterson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Roosevelt was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted seven assists.

Mountain View had a senior duo take command as Dylan Garland went 8 of 14 on his way to 27 points and four steals and Darius Simmons went 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Simmons. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Mares-Benz, who put up seven points and ten boards.

Roosevelt's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-4. As for Mountain View, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Roosevelt will venture away from home to challenge Severance at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Severance is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season. As for Mountain View, they will host Wellington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mountain View's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
