The Towanda Knights will head out on the road to take on the Canton Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Towanda will be strutting in after a win while Canton will be coming in after a defeat.
Towanda will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Mansfield, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Knights came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 7-4 on Monday. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Boom Thompson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Avery Butts was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Brad Assante also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Sullivan County hit Canton with a nine-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Griffins. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Warriors' highest-scoring game to date.
Canton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reed Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Briar Hartford was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs.
Canton now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Towanda, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Towanda has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Canton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Towanda's way against Canton in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Towanda made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
