The Belpre Golden Eagles will challenge the Frontier Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Belpre is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Belpre and Waterford have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Golden Eagles lost 21-4 to the Wildcats.
Belpre saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Moore, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Another was Chase Maze, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Frontier came out on top against St. Marys on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Cougars walked away with a 7-3 win over the Blue Devils.
Zeke Rinard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other pitching news, Aidan Wolfe tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Frontier is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zerik Rinard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Frontier's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Austin Kephart was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Frontier's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Belpre, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.
Belpre skirted past Frontier 6-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2017. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
