After a string of three wins, the Grafton Bearcats's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Elkins 46-41. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Grafton of the 54-51 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Grafton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Hadley Horne, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds, and Kenna Keener who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Keener has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Massie, who scored six points along with two blocks.
Grafton's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Elkins, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grafton will take on Preston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Preston is ranked 48th, while Grafton is ranked 45th). As for Elkins, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Fairmont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Fairmont knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Elkins likes a good challenge.
