The La Habra Highlanders will face off against the Etiwanda Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
La Habra is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Upland 11-1. Winning may never get old, but the Highlanders sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Madison Payne tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Milee Valencia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
La Habra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Etiwanda put up some runs last Wednesday, the same can't be said for Los Osos. The Eagles put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three games in a row.
Kimberlee Aleman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Aleman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Dailynn Battee was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Karrington Bennett, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
La Habra pushed their record up to 22-7 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Etiwanda, their record now sits at 22-3.
