Katie DeMarco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sydney Ray made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Thomas Jefferson faced Baldwin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Jaguars walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Fighting Highlanders. The win was familiar territory for the Jaguars, who have now won six contests in a row.
Thomas Jefferson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Aubrey Shaffer gave up only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Thomas Jefferson let Cam Noderer and Addi Bracco run wild. Noderer went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Bracco went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Bracco a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jemma Danko, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Thomas Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in six consecutive games.
Moon Area's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Thomas Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 12-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Moon Area has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Thomas Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Moon Area might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Thomas Jefferson in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
