After flying high against the Bulkeley Bulldogs last Saturday, the Avon Falcons came back down to earth. Avon was beaten by Cheney RVT 77-34 on Thursday. Avon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-13.
Dam'nic Gittens continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cheney RVT, scoring 24 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Gittens hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Dazhaun Copeland was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Cheney RVT, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Avon will head out on the road to take on Glastonbury at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Glastonbury presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Avon in Connecticut (Glastonbury is ranked 30th, while Avon is ranked 122nd). As for Cheney RVT, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Goodwin Tech at 6:30 p.m. Goodwin Tech is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
