SAN JOSE, Calif. - After taking the lead in overtime,
St. Ignatius (San Francisco, Calif.) held on for a 13-10 victory over
Bellarmine (San Jose, Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Wildcats was
Elijah Dale ran for a touchdown.
The Bells pulled ahead on a
Kj Carta-samuels touchdown run, and subsequently went into halftime leading 7-0. The Wildcats scored the winning points with a Dale touchdown run that came in the fifth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, St. Ignatius still trailed by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. But seven points in the fourth helped SI pull out the victory.
Bellarmine's Carta-samuels played well. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown.
Dale played well for the San Francisco school in the victory. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 14 touchdowns on the season.
BHS's lone touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Carta-samuels in the first quarter.
The Wildcats entered the contest giving up 20.1 points per game this year.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the San Jose school took, 54-14.
The defeat comes as a step back for Bellarmine, which notched a 17-12 victory over Serra in its previous outing. With the win St. Ignatius extended its winning streak to four games.
