The Mineral County Serpents will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sage Ridge Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Mineral County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Coleville 55-25. Mineral County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-11.
Despite the loss, Mineral County saw an underclassman step up: Jayona Kimmins scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kimmins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taiylor Sanchez, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Mineral County struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Coleville posted 16 assists.
Meanwhile, Sage Ridge took a serious blow against Pyramid Lake on Wednesday, falling 64-29. While losing is never fun, Sage Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Pyramid Lake is ranked 17th).
Mineral County's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Sage Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
Mineral County was taken down by Sage Ridge 66-25 in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sage Ridge's Sophia Soran, who scored 36 points along with 14 rebounds and 13 steals.
