Cedar Valley is 0-3 against Westlake since April of 2024 but things could change on Wednesday. The Aviators will host the Thunder at 3:30 p.m. Cedar Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Cedar Valley played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Bingham. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aviators.
Makaylee Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jeslyn Collins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Hights, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westlake fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Spanish Fork on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dons by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that the Thunder have lost by just one run.
Brilynn Attebery put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Addison Conder was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Emmri Chuchran was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Westlake's loss dropped their record down to 14-9-1. As for Cedar Valley, their win bumped their record up to 14-12.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cedar Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Westlake struggles in that department as they've averaged .400. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cedar Valley came up short against Westlake in their previous matchup back in March, falling 9-6. Will the Aviators have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
