Basketball Recap: Eastern Hancock Takes a Loss

After a string of five wins, Eastern Hancock's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 100-46 loss at the hands of the Greenfield-Central Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while the Cougars are ranked ninth).

Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kayden Ruble, who went 5 for 8 en route to 10 points. Caden Powers was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Greenfield-Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Braylon Mullins out in front who went 15 of 19 on his way to 41 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Mullins' evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Blake Evans also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Eastern Hancock's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Greenfield-Central, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern Hancock will square off against Monroe Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Greenfield-Central, they will challenge Indianapolis Shortridge at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
