The Chowchilla Tribe had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 32-31 win over Caruthers. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chowchilla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Davian Stephenson, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Stephenson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Hemphill, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
Despite the loss, Caruthers still got an impressive performance from Hunter Babb, who rushed for 309 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Babb is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played.
Chowchilla's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. As for Caruthers, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
Chowchilla will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 151 points over their last three games. As for Caruthers, they will be playing at home against Fowler at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fowler will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
