After flying high against the Naylor Eagles last Thursday, the Dexter Bearcats came back down to earth. Dexter took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Saxony Lutheran on Monday. Dexter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Saxony Lutheran apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.
Saxony Lutheran had a senior duo take command as Rebecca Johnson scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists and Evie Caruso scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Caruso has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Maci Hollis was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Dexter's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Saxony Lutheran, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dexter won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sikeston at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Sikeston is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Saxony Lutheran, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Notre Dame at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Notre Dame is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
