Softball Recap: Cambria Heights Wins Going Away Against Conemaugh Township

Cambria Heights had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 18-run drubbing they dealt Conemaugh Township on Wednesday. The Highlanders put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 23-5 win. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Highlanders this season.

Jayden Ivory looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Ellie Bender and Brea Kountz did most of the damage at the plate: Bender got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI, while Kountz went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Bender a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Bradley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Cambria Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cambria Heights is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Conemaugh Township, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Conemaugh Township will head out on the road to face off against Portage at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
