Hughson hasn't had much luck against Ripon recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Huskies will look to defend their home field against the Indians at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Hughson will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Gregori last Wednesday. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over the Jaguars.
Summer Leshko was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one double. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Grace Leedom was another key player, going 2-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Hughson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Ripon came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Reds get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Mikayla Dietrich, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Savannah Chapman, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Ripon pushed their record up to 15-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hughson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hughson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like Ripon struggles in that department as they've averaged .433. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
