Video: Walk-off grand slam sends team to state championshipWatch Hayden Hoiness lift La Crescent (Minn.) to a semifinal win.
Upsets continue to be the theme in the 2017 high school baseball postseason with the Texas Class 5A state tournament being the latest example.
Port Neches-Groves was unranked heading into the state tournament and was not favored against Wakeland, the No. 13 team in the nation. But the Indians won their semifinal match-up and then beat defending state champion Grapevine for the 5A title.
The state title, along with an early season win against Class 6A state champion Deer Park, puts Port Neches-Groves at No. 12 in this week's rankings. Deer Park moved up from No. 23 to No. 13.
There is only one week left in the high school baseball season and only No. 10 Saline (Mich.) and No. 11 Cathedral (Indianapolis) are still competing for a state title. All other teams in the rankings have completed their seasons. MaxPreps will crown its official national champion on June 19.
