Elbert is 9-1 against Pikes Peak Christian since January of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Elbert Bulldogs will host the Pikes Peak Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Elbert is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Elbert is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Briggsdale on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Elbert lost 53-27 to Briggsdale. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-6.
Despite the defeat, Elbert saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Piper Warren dropped a double-double with 12 points and 24 rebounds. That was a full 44.4% of Elbert's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Elbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pikes Peak Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They strolled past Dolores Huerta Prep with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 46-28.
Elbert better keep an eye on Megan Ferguson. She was instrumental in Pikes Peak Christian's win, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Those ten points gave Ferguson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annaliece Fisher, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine steals.
Elbert's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Pikes Peak Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Elbert has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pikes Peak Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Elbert couldn't quite finish off Pikes Peak Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2024 and fell 41-39. Can Elbert avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
