Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Gilmer Bobcats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a hard 42-24 fall against Monroe Area on Friday. While losing is never fun, Gilmer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Monroe Area is ranked 109th).
Issac Rellinger threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns on only seven passes. Hunter Britain was his top target, picking up 52 receiving yards.
Jitt Carr was on fire for Monroe Area: he rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Hamby, who threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.
Gilmer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Monroe Area, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 8-4 record.
Gilmer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Monroe Area will face off against Carver at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carver is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
