The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jefferson County in their matchups with Port Gibson: they've now lost three in a row.
Port Gibson was led to victory by Ger'Kiya Flowers and Amyah Hedrick. Flowers scored 16 points, while Hedrick scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Hedrick scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Camara Evans, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Jefferson County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Port Gibson, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson County will challenge South Pike at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Pike presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jefferson County in Mississippi (South Pike is ranked 106th, while Jefferson County is ranked 263rd). As for Port Gibson, they will head out on the road to square off against Wesson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
