The Anton Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 68-23 defeat at the hands of Whitharral. While losing is never fun, Anton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1360th, while the Panthers are ranked 401st).
Paige Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Whitharral, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Whitharral's points. Avery McCain was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Anton has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Whitharral, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 25-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Anton will face off against the Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Whitharral, they will head out on the road to take on the Antelopes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Whiteface will be looking to keep their ten-game home win streak alive.
